Connecting the Dots

At Bridging the Gap Speech & Language Services, we make speech, language, and educational support accessible through thoughtful, individualized care and meaningful collaboration. Our work begins with understanding the whole child—listening to families, identifying strengths, and completing comprehensive evaluations to guide next steps.

From there, we develop individualized goals that reflect each child’s needs and environment. Support may include direct therapy, consultation, or coaching for families and educators, along with practical strategies and resources that promote carryover at home and in educational settings. By working together, we connect therapy to everyday life—creating support that is purposeful, effective, and sustainable.

Our
Mission

What Sets Us Apart

At Bridging the Gap Speech & Language Services, communication is more than a skill—it is identity, connection, and empowerment.

Our mission is to elevate the way individuals

experience communication by delivering exceptional, evidence-based speech and

language services across individualized and educational settings.

We believe voice is not defined by speech, but by the ability to connect, advocate, and

belong. By partnering with families, schools, and communities, we provide inclusive,

meaningful support. Through collaborative practice and individualized care, we bridge the

gap between potential and possibility

Get to know me...

Barbara Gutierrez-Masson, EdD, CCC-SLP

I’ve always been drawn to work that centers on connection, curiosity, and understanding. As a wife, a mother of three, and a speech-language pathologist, I care deeply about helping individuals communicate in ways that feel natural, meaningful, and empowering.  My work is guided by the understanding that communication looks different for everyone.  Some people use words, others rely on gestures, technology, or other forms of expression—and all of those ways of communicating are valid. What matters most to me is taking the time to truly understand the person behind the goals: their strengths, challenges, environment, and lived experiences. That perspective shapes everything I do.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development from Florida International University, a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Florida State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management from St. Thomas University. I’ve worked across school-based and private practice settings, allowing me to

support individuals and families in meaningful, real-world ways.

In addition to my clinical work, I have over ten years of experience teaching at the college and university level. Teaching keeps me engaged with current research and evolving best practices, ensuring that my clinical work remains relevant, thoughtful, and grounded in evidence.

Outside of work, I love to travel and read—both of which continue to shape how I see people, stories, and connection. I bring that same openness and curiosity into my work, meeting individuals where they are and helping them move forward with confidence.

Children Playing Together

Choosing the right speech therapy support for our child was one of the most important decisions we’ve made, and finding Bridging the Gap was truly a gift. Barbie approaches each child with incredible compassion, professionalism, and intention. She took the time to understand not only our child’s challenges, but also their strengths, creating a space where growth felt both supported and celebrated.

The care Barbie and her team provide goes far beyond therapy sessions—they build relationships, confidence, and trust. We’ve seen meaningful progress, but just as importantly, we’ve seen our child feel proud, capable, and understood. We are deeply thankful for the impact Bridging the Gap has had on our family and would recommend them without hesitation to any parent seeking exceptional speech therapy services.
